I often get asked how I got into doing weddings….
One of my brothers asked me to be his celebrant. So I winged my way to Italy and under the Tuscan sun I helped him marry the girl of his dreams.
Post the ceremony one of his friends complimented me on the ceremony by saying “I’ve been to lots of weddings but that was the first time I actually listened to it all, is this your full time gig?”
It was actually my first wedding ceremony and ironically it wasn’t even a real! (The official “I do’s” had been exchanged and legalised in a registry office in Camden Town in London a few days prior).
Then a couple of Arrowtown friends asked if I would be their celebrant so this time I needed to become the real deal….. since then I have had the honour of marrying another brother, a few more friends and the rest is history.
I have officiated weddings in olive groves, on top of sand dunes, at world class resorts such as Millbrook and on rocky out crops on the side of some majestic Southern mountains that included a 45min hike to find the perfect pitch.
I genuinely love meeting the couples I work with, hearing their love story and then working with them to make sure they achieve their wishes for their wedding be it big or small.
I always feel truly humbled be part of a couples special day and the remarkable feeling of joy that comes from participating in a wedding often stays with me for many days post the ‘I do’s”.
It is such an honour to help two people marry the one they love the way they want.
